It isn't much of a stretch for Jill Biden when she takes an acting turn in an episode of Lifetime network's "Army Wives."
The second lady, playing herself, visits the show's Fort Marshall to hear about the challenges facing military families and offer them words of encouragement.
"I'm proud to be here today as a second lady, but I'm even more proud to be here as a military mom," Biden tells a group that gathers for the post's annual fun run to benefit military kids.

The aftermath of Megyn Kelly's interview with a former Justice Department lawyer over a New Black Panther Party case has made her a hero and a villain.
The Fox News Channel host is a hero to fans who appreciate the time she has spent on a story about a nightstick-carrying New Black Panther Party member standing outside a 2008 polling place, wondering if it reflects an Obama administration inconsistency in pursuing civil rights cases.
But she's a villain to critics who believe Ke

Billionaire Carl Icahn accused Canadian-headquartered Hollywood studio Lions Gate Entertainment Corp on Monday of using "scorched-earth" tactics to thwart his takeover bid for the company, and pledged legal action.
Icahn relaunched a hostile bid for Lions Gate Entertainment Corp last week after a 10-day truce, a move that was answered by the studio with a debt-to-equity swap, which slashed the stake that Icahn had built up over five months to about 33.5 percent from 37.9 percent .

Gloria Stuart lives like her days are numbered, and little wonder. The Oscar-nominated actress, best known as Old Rose in the 1997 blockbuster "Titanic," turned 100 on July 4.
"I would say I don't notice the difference between 100 and, say, 90," Stuart said while sitting in the bonsai-lined garden of her home in the Brentwood district of Los Angeles. "You're still frail, feeble, and full of you-know-what," she continued, with a laugh.
Truth is, the only thing obviously frail abo

Barbara Kingsolver, winner of the Orange Prize for fiction, is back in the U.K. one month after scooping up the prestigious prize awarded to the best novel of the year written in English by a woman.
"I was more surprised to win than anyone," she said of the prize. "I never really expect to be successful."
Kingsolver nearly threw out the first novel she wrote more than 20 years ago, but on a whim she decided to send it to an agent and was amazed when "The Bean Trees" was publishe

All eyes are on Robert Plant when he steps on stage — especially his band's.
If you're going to play with the rock 'n' roll icon, you've got to be ready to follow.
"When you're working with Robert you can only rehearse so much and then it doesn't matter anymore because you have to have your eyes glued on him the entire night," guitarist Buddy Miller said in an interview with his tour bandmate, singer-songwriter and guitarist Patty Griffin. "No matter what the arrangement was, he

LucasFilm recently served a manufacturer of a handheld laser with a cease-and-desist letter for selling an item it claimed was too close in resemblance to its trademark lightsabers from "Star Wars."
Now, the Hong Kong firm is using the force of eBay to score some revenge. The cease-and-desist letter is now being auctioned off. Current bidding is up to $585, with just over four days to go.
The letter isn't signed by George Lucas himself, unfortunately. Nevertheless, the company i

What made the huge Hollywood premiere of "Inception" on Tuesday, July 13, different from most? It wasn't that it was staged at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard; that's been the spot where movie premieres have happened since 1927. Nor was it having a huge movie star like Leonardo DiCaprio head across the street to the screaming crowd, signing autographs and posing for photos with adoring fans, for that's been done, too.
No, what set the "Inception" premiere apart was th

Technology helped the Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins record with two of his rock idols on his solo project, but the drummer doesn't think much about how it has impacted the music world on the whole.
Hawkins has a disdain for current recording practices, and blames it mostly on Pro Tools, the digital audio workstation software that's used by most artists.
"It's ruined music as far as I'm concerned, at least rock 'n' roll," Hawkins said. "It's great for dance music."
